In Wendell, Union Pines started strong, but it was Corinth-Holders that finished strong as the Pirates beat the Vikings 29-13 in the first round of the state 3AA East playoffs.

On Union Pines second possession, quarterback Ben Bowbliss had a 95-yard touchdown run. The sophomore added a 24-yard touchdown pass to Demarius Hampton later in the first quarter to give the Vikings a 13-6 lead.

Bowbliss finished the night with 149 rushing yards on 10 carries. He completed 3 of 10 passes for 45 yards. Hampton caught 4 passes for 88 yards, and the Vikings finished with 282 yards of total offense.

Corinth-Holders (9-3; 4-1) had passing touchdowns of 55, 51 and 29 yards, and a rushing touchdown of 1 yard. The Yellow Jackets also picked up 2 points from a Viking safety on a blown punt play.

No. 14 seed Union Pines finishes the season 6-6.

Gray's Creek scored 8 first-half touchdowns and rolled to a 57-21 win over Union Pines Friday in Hope Mills.

Union Pines quarterback Max Yates completed 13-of-21 passes for 223 yards, 3 touchdowns and one interception in his final regular season game. He had touchdown passes of 33 and 14 yards to Demarius Hampton and a 22-yard toss to Addison Cagle. The senior also carried the ball 14 times for 46 yards.

Union Pines was held to 91 yards rushing offense.

The Vikings finish the regular season 6-5 overall, 2-4 in the Cape Fear Valley conference. Union Pines has an open week and waits to see if they get an at-large bid to the state 3A tournament.

Southern Lee took advantage of six Union Pines turnovers to beat the Viking 31-0 Friday in Sanford.

Union Pines quarterback Ben Bowbliss completed 16 of 29 passes for 107 yards and 4 interceptions. He also carried the ball 8 times for 11 yards.

The Vikings have lost 3 Cape Fear Valley conference games in the row and fall to 5-4 on the season. Union Pines can end the skid next week against Douglas Byrd in the final home game of the season. The sophomore also carried the ball 13 times for 13 yards, 2 rushing touchdowns and a 2-point conversion as the Vikings improved to 4-0 on the season.

Running back Kalon Green had 8 carries for 59 yards and a touchdown as Union Pines generated 314 yards of total offense. Tyler Packer caught 3 passes for 106 yards, including a 90-yard touchdown, while teammate Joseph Gisler had 4 catches for 16 yards and a touchdown.

The Union Pines defense make a game-winning stand as Trinity had the ball first and goal from the 8 with 45 seconds to play.

The Vikings visit Western Harnett next week.

Union Pines quarterback Ben Bowbliss rushed for a pair of touchdowns and he threw three more as the Vikings beat N. Moore 43-13 Friday in Cameron.

Bowbliss had touchdown runs of 24 and 5 yards and he has touchdown passes of 30, 24 and 13 yards. The sophomore connected with Demarius Hampton for two scores, and he found Robert Collins for a third.

Viking running back Kalon Green had a 1-yard score early in the game and kicker Sam Parsons had a 32-yard field goal late in the game.

Union Pines also had three interceptions in the game.

North Moore, who falls to 1-1 on the season, had a pair of touchdown passes from Malik McCrimmon. The Mustangs host South Robeson next week.

Maintenance work on the track at Union Pines next week will force the Vikings to move next week's game with Providence Grove to Saturday at 7 p.m. at Pinecrest. Providence Grove won 28-27 Friday over E. Davidson in overtime.
