Considered by many to be done after a 5-game losing streak in late October, the Union Pines football team made a statement Friday night.
The Vikings outscored Westover 46-38 in Cameron to complete the regular season with back-to-back wins and a birth in next week's 3AA East playoffs.
Quarterback Ben Bowbliss had touchdown runs of 75 and 1 yard to lead the Vikings. He gained 197 yards on 18 carries, and he completed 7 of 17 passes for 74 yards including an 8-yard touchdown to Justin Eberhart.
Viking running back Kalon Green rushed for 98 yards on 18 carries and had touchdown runs of 21 and 2 yards. Kicker Sam Parsons had a 34-yard field goal and 2 PATs, and Union Pines had conversion points from a Dakota Hicks run, and a Trevor Womak pass to Tristian Serna.
Union Pines finishes the regular season 6-5 overall, 2-4 in the Cape Fear Valley Conference.
