Recap: Union Pines 17 - Southern Lee 14

Union Pines won the battle of big plays Friday at Southern Lee as the Vikings beat the Cavaliers 17-14 in Sanford.

Union Pines quarterback Ben Bowbliss had two second-half touchdown runs — the most important a 1-yard plunge on fourth and goal with just under 3 minutes to play in the contest. The Viking defense held on the ensuing Southern Lee drive to snap a 5-game losing streak.

Bowbliss completed 9 of 19 passes for 73 yards and 2 interceptions. He had 7 carries for 46 yards, including a 12-yard scamper to the right pylon on the first drive of the second half.

Sam Parsons had a 39-yard field goal the Vikings in the first quarter.

Southern Lee (4-6; 1-4) had first-quarter rushing scores of 73 and 93 yards.

Union Pines improves to 5-5 overall, 1-4 in the Cape Fear Valley 4A. The Vikings close the regular season at home next week needing a win over Westover to secured a spot in the playoffs. The Wolverines lost to Lee County 28-6 Friday.
