Recap: Pinecrest 48 - Lumberton 14

Pinecrest opened Southeastern 4A Conference play with a 48-14 homecoming win over Lumberton Thursday in Southern Pines.

Receiver Chris Owens had a highlight reel kinda night catching four passes for 216 yards and a touchdown. He set up a third quarter score with a 93-yard reception from quarterback Nik Pry on second and 27.

Joing Owens on the highlight reel was Shymeik Reeves who returned a punt 70 yards for a score in the third quarter.

Pry had 9 carries for 10 yards and 3 touchdowns (3, 2 and 1 yard). The junior completed 9 of 14 passes for 278 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown pass to Owens.

Malyke Justice had 8 carries for 149 yards for the Patriots. He also had a highlight reel moment with a 96-yard touchdown run. Teammate Jeremiah Anderson also had a 9-yard rushing touchdown.

Pinecrest (7-0; 1-0) led 27-6 at the half. Lumberton (2-5; 0-1) took advantage of 14 Patriot flags and 155 penalty yards to set up scores at the end of each half.

Pinecrest, the No. 10 team in the latest 4A AP football poll, hosts No. 2 Scotland next week. The Scots punished Purnell Swett 56-0 Thursday. Also on Thursday, Richmond Senior beat Hoke County 35-7. #goPinecrest
