Pinecrest had a pair of offensive touchdowns, a pick six and a fumble return for a score in the first 12 minutes of Friday's first round playoff game with Leesville Road.
The Patriots added a pair of second-half scores to tame the Pride 42-21 and advance to the second round of the state 4AA East tourney.
Pinecrest quarterback Nik Pry found Chris Owens for an 80-yard catch and run on the first play from scrimmage. Pry also had a one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and finished the night 10-of-19 passing for 155 yards and one interception.
Patriot running back Malyke Justice had a game-high 94 rushing yards on 13 carries. He even carried a Leesville Road (6-6) defender into the end zone for the final 8 yards of an 18 yard score late in the first quarter. Justice added an insurance touchdown late in the fourth and converted the 2-point conversion
The Pinecrest defense started strong when JT Adams intercepted Leesville Road quarterback Vince Amendola midway through the first and returned it 36 yards for a score. Shymeik Reeves also found the end zone after scooping up a Pride fumble and returning it 23 yards in the final seconds of the first frame.
No. 2-seed Pinecrest (10-2) advances to host No. 3 Wake Forest Heritage (10-2). The Huskies knocked off Holly Springs 17-14 in the first round. #goPinecrest
