Recap: Pinecrest 29 - Southern Lee 3

Pinecrest overcame a sloppy first half of football to stop a determined Southern Lee 29-3 Friday in Southern Pines.

The Patriots (5-0) overcame a number of first-half miscues by returning to its ground and pound run game to put 23 second-half points on the board.

Quarterback Nik Pry was involved in all three second-half touchdowns, running for scores of 42 and 2 yards, and completing a 12-yard fade to Chris Owens. Pry finished the game with 17 carries for 104 yards and he completed 2 of 13 passes for 29 yards.

Outside linebacker Jaren Lubrano returned a stripped ball 36 yards for a first-half touchdown. It was that highlight play of the first 24 minutes that included fumbles, a missed field goal, a blocked field goal, a missed PAT and a host of incomplete passes.

The Patriot defense held Southern Lee (3-1) to 180 yards of total offense and a 42-yard field goal. Pinecrest finished with 299 yards of total offense.

Pinecrest hosts Word of God Christian Academy next week. The Holy Rams are 1-3 and lost to Winston-Salem Prep 52-6 Friday.
