Pinecrest scored three unanswered touchdowns to knock off a determined Hoke County football team 21-12 Friday in Southern Pines.
With several Pinecrest starters out of the lineup for injuries and others jumping across the line of scrimmage to fill in key roles, the Patriots struggled early in the first quarter giving up a 54-yard touchdown pass and a 68-yard pick six to the Fighting Bucks (2-8; 1-3).
Enter Jaylen Dickerson.
The South Carolina recruit started the game at outside linebacker, stepped in at quarterback, lined up to return kickoffs and punts, made some highlight blocks for teammates, and he finished with a host tackles. Offensively, Dickerson carried the ball 16 times for 97 yards, including a 3-yard touchdown run, and he completed 3-of-5 passes for 88 yards and a 46-yard strike to Chris Owen for a touchdown.
Jaren Lubrano, who started the night at quarterback for an ailing Nik Pry, had 3 carries for 9 yards and a 4-yard touchdown run. He was 0-for-3 passing with the one interception.
Sophomore runningback Zaythan Hill also has some quality runs in a 14-carry, 90-yard rushing performance.
Pinecrest finishes the regular season 9-2; 3-2 in the Southeastern 4A Conference. The Patriots get a second bye week and wait to see where the land in the 4AA playoffs next Saturday.
