Recap: Pinecrest 14 - Richmond 21

Richmond Senior returned a kickoff 97 yards with 33 seconds to play Friday to beat Pinecrest 21-14 in Rockingham.

In an epic defensive battle marred by penalties and 9 fumbles between the teams, Patriot quarterback Nik Pry pieced together a late fourth quarter drive that set up what appeared to be a game winning score with 47 seconds to play. The junior guided the Pinecrest to a 65-yard, clock-killing drive that ended with a Pry rushing touchdown on second an goal from the 9. Zach Martinez point after gave the Patriots a 14-13 lead — its only lead of the game.

Richmond quarterback Leon Zigler scored first on a 5-yard run the first quarter. The Patriot defense answered with 3 seconds left before halftime when Jaren Lubrano recovered a fumble and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown.

Raider running back Dante Miller scored on a 1-yard plunge with 10:07 in the fourth, but he point after was blocked, giving the Raiders a 13-7 lead. Miller, reaching into his pocket for a little Raider Magic, also returned the kickoff for the Richmond touchdown.

Pry finished the night 8 of 17 passing for 78 yards and 2 interceptions. He had 12 carries for 55 yards.

Pinecrest hosts Hoke County next week. The Bucks earned their first league win last night beating Purnell Swett 20-17. Scotland crushed Lumberton 63-7 in the last Southeastern 4A matchup Friday. #goPinecrest
