Final: Pinecrest 51 - Lumberton 14

Pinecrest's Gerogio Najm returned the opening kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown Friday — the first of eight Patriot scores — in 51-14 route of Lumberton in Southern Pines.

Offensively, Nick Boulanger scored from 3 yards out and Savion Kizer punched one in from 13 yards out in the first quarter. The Patriot defense tackled a Lumberton runner in the end zone for a safety in the opening frame for a 23-0 lead.

Ben Garbark carried the ball into the end zone from 5 yards out midway through the second quarter, then the connected with Aaron Scott for a 24-yard passing touchdown just before recess.

Garbark finished the night 2-for-5 passing for 49 yards and one interception. Had had 7 carries for 55 yards. Boulanger led all seven Patriot rushers with 62 yards.

Patriot defender Jalen Daley retuned a fumbled Lumberton punt three yards for a score in the third quarter, and Raequan Harrington finished the scoring on a 36-yard dive with 1:08 to play in the fourth quarter.

Lumberton quarterback Jadarian Chatman connected with Jordan McNeil for touchown passes of 37 yards in the second quarter and 25 yards in the fourth quarter.

Pinecrest had 251 yards of total offense to 173 for Lumberton. The Patriots four turnovers to the Pirates three.

Pinecrest improves to 7-1 overall, 3-1 in Sandhills Athletic Conference play. Lumberton falls to 2-5; 0-4. The Patriots are now 21-25 all time against the Pirates and have won the last 9 meetings.

Pinecrest travels to Laurinburg to face undefeated Scotland (8-0; 4-0) next week.
