Final: Pinecrest 34 - Lumberton 27

Zaythan Hill had 228 rushing yards and three touchdowns to lead Pinecrest past Lumberton 34-27 Friday in Southern Pines.

Hill had scores of 5, 46 and 53 yards, but the senior's ability to find the first down marker kept several drives alive and may have been the key to the Patriot win.

Corey Patterson had a 1-yard scoring run in the third frame and Trey Dowd crossed the goal line from 1 yard out in the fourth to help the Patriots improve to 5-3 overall, 2-2 in the Sandhills Athletic Conference.

Lumberton's Braylan Grice established himself as a man among men in the chippy contest. The junior quarterback carried the ball 27 times for 142 yards and 4 touchdowns, and he completed 14 of 30 passes for 287 yards. Grice also completed a 2-point conversion pass to Javonte McDougald and handled punting duties for the Pirates.

Lumberton (2-6; 1-3) had 445 yards of total offense; Pinecrest had 377.

Pinecrest visits Scotland next week. The Scots (6-1; 4-0) silenced 71st 56-35 last night. #goPinecrest
