Final: Pinecrest 34 - Hoke County 16

Trey Dowd and Zaythan Hill had a pair of rushing touchdowns to lead Pinecrest past Hoke County 34-16 Friday in Raeford.

Dowd found the end zone from 4 and 9 yards out while Hill had a pair of 4-yard scores as the Patriots improve to 7-4 overall.

Pinecrest finished with 491 yards of total offense, 355 coming on the ground. Dowd led all rushers with 90 yards on 7 carries and Hill finished with 89 yards on 12 carries. Corey Patterson had 13 carries for 73 yards and a 6-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Greg Van Steen completed 8 of 14 passes for 136 yards.

Pinecrest was penalized 12 times in the contest for 146 yards — including five consecutive plays at one point.

The Patriots also won the turnover battle 4-2.

Pinecrest will be the No. 4 seed from the Sandhills Athletic Conference in the state 4A playoffs next week. The Patriots are projected to have a first-round home game with a triangle area team. Official brackets will be announced later today.
