It was like deja vu all over again for the Union Pines football team Friday in Clayton.
For the second year in a row, No-2 seed Cleveland had to go well into the fourth quarter to stop a Union Pines upset bid in the first round of the state 3AA East playoffs.
With the game tied at 28 after three quarters, the Rams (9-3) scored 28 fourth-quarter points to post a 56-42 win.
Union Pines quarterback Josh Polidori connected with Jack Tercheria for a touchdown passes of 62 and 2 yards, and running back Justin Eberhart had touchdown runs of 34 and 14 yards.
Last year, Cleveland held off a late Viking rally to win 37-34 in Clayton.
