Joseph Smith's first quarter pick 6 set the tone for Union Pines Friday. Senior night was going to be special.
Kamau Fairley did his part. The senior linebacker led the defense with 9 tackles and recovered a fumble.
Senior receiver Brandon Deloatch had 3 catches for 72 yards including one reception for 43 yards.
Justin Eberhart, the senior running back with rushing touchdowns of 4 and 13 yards in the game, also had a 26-yard scoring pass from quarterback Rory Board. Eberhart had 72 yards on 11 carries in the regular season finale.
Then there was the end zone painted by the seniors.
It all worked for the Vikings in a 34-6 route of Western Harnett in Cameron.
Board, a sophomore, completed 11 of 22 passes for 220 yards, 1 INT and 2 touchdowns in the game. His final score was a 54-yard strike to Isiah Hampton in the fourth quarter.
The Vikings (6-5; 3-2) finish the season tied for second place in the Tri-County 6 with S. Lee and Triton. The schools had a draw for the No. 2 seed and a seat in the playoffs and Triton won. S. Lee and Union Pines are bubble teams and may be on the outside looking in when the state 3A brackets are released later today. #goUnionPines
