Joseph Smith's first quarter pick 6 set the tone for Union Pines Friday. Senior night was going to be special. Kamau Fairley did his part. The senior linebacker led the defense with 9 tackles and recovered a fumble. Senior receiver Brandon Deloatch had 3 catches for 72 yards including one reception for 43 yards. Justin Eberhart, the senior running back with rushing touchdowns of 4 and 13 yards in the game, also had a 26-yard scoring pass from quarterback Rory Board. Eberhart had 72 yards on 11 carries in the regular season finale. Then there was the end zone painted by the seniors. It all worked for the Vikings in a 34-6 route of Western Harnett in Cameron. Board, a sophomore, completed 11 of 22 passes for 220 yards, 1 INT and 2 touchdowns in the game. His final score was a 54-yard strike to Isiah Hampton in the fourth quarter. The Vikings (6-5; 3-2) finish the season tied for second place in the Tri-County 6 with S. Lee and Triton. The schools had a draw for the No. 2 seed and a seat in the playoffs and Triton won. S. Lee and Union Pines are bubble teams and may be on the outside looking in when the state 3A brackets are released later today. #goUnionPines

The North Moore football team ended a two-game scoring drought Friday pinning 42 points on S. Davidson (1-7; 0-4) in a 42-12 homecoming win. The Mustangs (2-6; 1-3) visit W. Montgomery (6-2; 3-1) next week. #goNMoore
De'Marius Staton had four rushing touchdowns and Da'John Williams added two more as Triton beat Union Pines 52-14 Friday in Erwin. Staton had runs of 14, 1 and 1 yard in the second quarter and he added a 23-yard score in the third. Williams went 81 and 46 yards in the third frame as the Hawks built a 45-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Triton had 627 yards of total offense — 550 of which were rushing yards.Union Pines quarterback Rory Board completed 12 of 32 passes for 85 yards and one interception. He was also the first player to find the end zone punching in a 2-yard run in the second quarter.Viking running back Justin Eberhart toted the rock 17 times for 141 yards including a 76-yard score in the fourth quarter. Union Pines had 300 yards of total offense. The Vikings (4-4; 1-1) visit undefeated Lee County (8-0; 2-0) next week. The Yellow Jackets crushed W. Harnett 55-0 last night. #goUnionPines

South Johnston pulled away from Union Pines with three late scores to take a 41-28 win in Cameron. The Trojans had fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns of 52 and 41 yards and a 34-yard pass in a five-minute window. Viking quarterbacks Rory Board and Josh Polidori were effective spreading the ball around. Board completed 9 of 12 passes for 90 yards including a 5-yard score to Shyheem Spell and an 8-yard strike to Justin Eberhart. Polidori was 7 of 13 passes for 76 yards. Justin Eberhart surpassed the 1,000 yard rushing mark with 21 carries for 134 yards. He also had touchdown runs of 16 and 21 yards. Union Pines had 317 yards of total offense but surrendered 503 yards to S. Johnston (4-2) — 400 of which came on the ground. Trojan running back Harold Robinson led all rushers with 218 yards on 17 carries and 4 touchdowns. Union Pines (3-3) has a bye next week. The Vikings vist S. Lee on Oct. 6.
