In the 1AA West football playoffs, No. 3-seed Bessemer City beat No. 6 North Moore 26-13 Friday. Tyreek Riddick-Reynolds had a 10-yard rushing score midway through the third quarter to give the Mustangs their only lead of the night at 7-6. Quarterback Andrew Fowler had the other North Moore touchdown — a 1-yard run late in the third quarter. The Mustangs finish the season 7-5. #goNMoore

For the second year in a row, No-2 seed Cleveland had to go well into the fourth quarter to stop a Union Pines upset bid in the first round of the state 3AA East playoffs. With the game tied at 28 after three quarters, the Rams (9-3) scored 28 fourth-quarter points to post a 56-42 win. Union Pines quarterback Josh Polidori connected with Jack Tercheria for a touchdown passes of 62 and 2 yards, and running back Justin Eberhart had touchdown runs of 34 and 14 yards. Union Pines football lost its third straight game Friday falling to Cape Fear Valley 3A co-leader Westover 44-9 in Fayetteville. The Vikings gave up 29 first-half points before quarterback Josh Polidori connected with Brandon Deloatch for a 15-yard touchdown strike. The only other Viking score would be a fourth quarter safety. Polidori completed 10 of 16 passes for 93 yard, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Justin Eberhart had 8 carries for 31 yards. Union Pines (6-5; 2-4) will have a bye week and wait for a playoff birth. #goUnionPines
The North Moore football team built a 48-0 halftime lead and added 13 more in the third quarter to crush Chatham Central 61-0 Friday. The Mustangs (6-4; 5-3) visit Kestrel Heights next week for a non-conference game in Durham. #goNMoore
Southern Lee spoiled Union Pines homecoming Friday winning a 51-35 shootout in Cameron. Union Pines drew first blood on a 26-yard field goal in the first quarter. After giving up a par of touchdowns, running back Justin Eberhart's second quarter 18-yard touchdown run cut the Southern Lee lead to 14-10. Eberhart's 23-yard rushing touchdown tied the game at 17 early in the third. He would finish the night with 23 carries for 133 yards. The Cavaliers tacked on a pair passing touchdowns to go up 31-17 before Viking quarterback Josh Polidori answered with a 50-yard pass to Jack Tercheria to close the third frame. Polidori opened the fourth quarter with a 51-yard pass to BJ Hackett, but Southern Lee answered with two passing touchdowns and a field goal to go up 48-28. Hackett earned a highlight reel moment late in the fourth with a 99-yard kickoff return — the final Viking score of the night. Polidoi completed 17 of 31 passes for 240 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. The Vikings had 409 yards of offense compared to 394 for the Cavaliers. The Vikings (6-4; 2-3) close out the regular season at Westover next week. The Wolverines lost to Lee County 34-12 Friday.
North Moore won the first and fourth quarters Friday night, but the second and third were the difference makers as East Montgomery survived a 48-34 scare in Biscoe. The Mustangs put the first 14 points on the board, but the Eagles responded with 41 unanswered through three quarters. The Mustangs responded early in the fourth adding 20 to the board in the final frame. N. Moore quarterback Andrew Fowler completed 8 of 12 passes for 83 yards and 2 touchdowns. Running back Tyreek Riddick-Reynolds had 22 carries for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. North Moore (5-4; 4-3) hosts Chatham Central next week. East Montgomery (10-0; 7-0) visits Mt. Gilead to play West Montgomery (10-0; 7-0) for the Yadkin Valley 1A championship next week.
Union Pines had opportunities against Cape Fear Valley 3A leader Lee County Friday night, but the Vikings could not find the end zone in a 26-0 loss in Cameron. Justin Everhart and Kalon Green provided a 1-2 punch for the UP offensive ground game. Everhart had 15 carries for 49 yards while Green had 7 carries for 44. Quarterback Josh Polideri completed 19 of 30 passes for 38 yards and 1 interception. He also carried the ball 8 times for 2 yards and had a pair of fumbles. The Yellow Jackets turned the ball over three times, but Union Pines could not convert them into points. The Vikings (6-3; 2-2) host Southern Lee next week. The Cavaliers lost to Westover 21-20 Friday night. Around the Cape Fear Valley last night it was Terry Sanford 44, Douglas Byrd 8.
Union Pines's Brendan Zielankski had 2-yard touchdown run in final minute Friday to give Union Pines a 33-28 win over Gray's Creek in Hope Mills. Leading 20-14 at the half, the Vikings (5-1; 1-0) needed a Justin Eberhart 4-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter to pull ahead 26-21. The Bears (1-5; 0-1) answered with a 25-yard touchdown pass to go up 28-26. Union Pines pieced together a 7-play, 60-yard drive to end the game highlighted by Zielankski run in the final seconds. Quarterback Ben Bowbliss completed 6 of 10 passes for 84 yards, including touchdowns tosses of 13, 26 and 24 yards. The senior carried the ball 6 times for 74 yards. Kalon Green was the leading rusher with 94 yards on 6 carries. He also caught 2 passes, one for a touchdown. Friday's win ended an 8-game losing streak to the Bears. Union Pines is 2-11 all-time against Gray's Creek. The only other win was in 2007 when running back John Gallimore led the Vikings to a 35-12 victory in Cameron. The Union Pines football team crushed Western Harnett 54-0 Friday. Quarterback Ben Bowbliss dominated the game completing 10 of 13 passes for 179 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. The senior carried the ball 8 times for 188 yards and touchdown runs of 79, 9 and 3 yards. Brandon Gisler had catches of 62 and 21 yards, both of which were touchdowns. Brandon Deloatch also had a 32-yard touchdown reception. Justin Eberhart has a 10-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and BJ Hackett had a 14-yard run in the fourth. Union Pines (4-1) had 504 yards of total offense and led 40-0 at recess. The Eagles were held to 82 yards of total offense. The win took a monkey off the back of Viking seniors as it was Union Pines first win over the Eagles after several years of close losses. Union Pines visits Gray's Creek next week.
Union Pines quarterback Ben Bowbliss accounted for 7 touchdowns Friday as the Vikings crushed Jordan-Matthews 56-29 in Siler City. Bowbliss had touchdown runs of 60, 30 and 3 yards. The senior also completed 8 of 11 passes for 233 yards with touchdown scoring strikes to Brandon Deloatch (80, 45 and 8 yards) and a hook and lateral play to Deloatch to Justin Eberhart for 70 yards. Backup Viking quarterback Josh Polidori connected with Brayden Gisler for a 22-yard score in the fourth quarter. Union Pines racked up 423 yards of offense to the Jets’ 209. The Vikings (3-1), winners of three straight, visit Western Harnett next week.
The Union Pines Vikings get a huge win over Providence Grove 47 - 8. Union Pines' QB Ben Bowbliss has 119 rushing yards on 10 carries and 2 TDs. He also completed 1-of-7 passes for 60 yards and 1 TD. Union Pines RB Justin Eberhart had 8 carries for 111 yards and 3 TDs. Union Pines improves to 2-1 and visits Jordan Matthews next week.
